David Styers serves as Director, Learning and Leadership Programs at the League of American Orchestras in New York City, and he is the representative for volunteers at the United Nations. He has an extensive history of nearly three decades working at the forefront of executive and civic engagement in leadership development. Most recently Managing Director, Strategy & Planning for Ascent Leadership Networks and Director of Learning and Development at the Presidio Trust, David has run fellowship and leadership education programs as diverse as for cross sector corporate, nonprofit, and government leaders to orchestra managers and conductors. Additionally, since 2007, David has served as a Senior Governance Consultant for BoardSource, currently in an adjunct role, where he provides project management, consulting, training, and coaching services to major client organizations across the nation on best governance practices and emerging trends and developments in the nonprofit sector. From 2014-2017, David worked at the Presidio Institute, an initiative of the Presidio Trust, where he developed, managed, and implemented leadership development programs and convening events that equipped and connected champions for change. For two years prior, David was Director of Consulting, Education, Training Services / Senior Board Governance Consultant for the Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership where he was responsible for developing and managing all aspects of the consulting practice work. At the Points of Light Foundation from 2000-2007, David partnered with more than 360 local Volunteer Center affiliates across the country to mobilize people and resources to deliver creative solutions to community problems. He began his career with the American Symphony Orchestra League, where he oversaw training and educational programs for seven years. David holds a Specialization in Design Thinking and Innovation from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and a Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude Degree in English from Wake Forest University.
